History

The story of the Chestnut Feedery begins when Glen Weaver began building mini barns in the shop that is attached to the store. At that time he rented a small section at the front of the shop to a business that groomed dogs. After a little while that small business began selling dog food. After several years, the dog grooming and dog food business faltered and eventually Glen bought out the dog food and started running the store himself. As the years went on, he worked built the business up to carry quite a few lines of pet food and supplies.
Livestock owners were also served by The Bradford Feedery. Large beef cattle down to miniature goats all feasted on feed purchased at this home town store. Chickens also grew and prospered by laying many eggs powered by the quality poultry feeds provided by Glen at The Bradford Feedery.
In the fall of 2015 Glen approached me, Melvin Stoltzfus, and let me know that he was interested in selling the store. My wife Hosanna and I prayed about this decision and sensed that this would be a good fit for our young family. Starting in December of 2015, the store began changing hands. Glen stayed on as an employee for quite a while to facilitate the transfer. He had built up a large customer base who were very loyal. It simply takes time to build trust in the new owner.
I changed the name of the store to “The Chestnut Feedery” to give a hint of change while not wishing to forget the history of this fine store. I look forward to serving the patrons of the Feedery with integrity, soundly priced products and timely service.
